Because environmental factors that influence mosquito activity are variable, it is becoming increasingly difficult to predict when heartworm season starts and ends. Even in Michigan there is a risk for “off-season” transmission to occur. Studies have shown that year-round administration of heartworm prevention will minimize the risk of this deadly disease.
